A chatbot is a small window on your website that answers customers when you can’t. We checked what they cost in September 2026, from free plans to companies charging hundreds of euro a month, because we were deciding what to charge for ours.
A chat without AI. You write the answers to the questions customers ask most — prices, opening hours, where you are, how to book — and the chat matches each question to the right answer. It never invents anything and costs nothing to run, so it is usually a one-off job, not a subscription.
Do-it-yourself AI tools. You sign up, upload your information and paste a piece of code into your site. Chatbase publishes paid plans from $40 to $500 a month, a fifth less if you pay for the year; Tidio’s AI assistant starts at $32.50 a month for 50 conversations; both have small free plans. The price is low, but the work is yours: writing the information, testing the answers and fixing the wrong ones.
An AI chatbot built and looked after for you. Someone sets it up with your information, checks its answers and keeps it current. An Albanian company selling AI chat agents publishes €249 a month for Instagram and Facebook, and €499 a month when the website is included. Freelancers on marketplaces such as Fiverr ask roughly $100 to $1,000 for a one-off setup, usually without looking after it afterwards.
How many conversations. AI costs money for every message, so most tools charge by conversations or “credits”. A shop answering five people a day and a hotel answering fifty do not get the same bill.
Where it answers. The website alone is the cheapest. Every extra channel — Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp — costs more, because each one has to be connected and watched.
Languages. A chat without AI needs every answer written in every language. An AI chatbot understands any language, which matters if your customers are tourists or live abroad.
Who fixes the wrong answers. This is the cost nobody puts on the pricing page. An AI that tells a customer the wrong price, or opening hours you changed last month, costs you more than the subscription.
Often, no. If most customers ask the same ten things — price, opening hours, location, parking, how to book — a chat without AI answers them instantly, cannot make anything up and has no monthly bill. The chat on our own site works exactly this way.
AI is worth it when the questions are many and different: a hotel answering about rooms, dates and transfers in five languages, a shop with hundreds of products, a clinic with a long price list. Then an AI that reads your information and replies in the customer’s language saves hours every week.
Does it answer only from your information, or can it invent? Ask to see what it says to a question it cannot know.
What happens when it does not know? A good one hands the customer to you — on WhatsApp, with the question already written — instead of guessing.
Who reads the conversations? You should get a monthly summary of what customers asked. It is the cheapest market research you will ever get.
